About the Builder
|
A cyclist for more than twenty years, Tom Oswald has
participated in many varied aspects of the sport. He has even written
a book on the subject - Bicycling in Florida: The Cyclist's Road
and Off-Road Guide, published by Pineapple Press of Sarasota, Florida.
Check it out at www.pineapplepress.com.
Tom's experience in the fields of road riding and racing, mountain biking and mountain bike racing, cyclo-cross racing, triathlon, duathlon, tandeming, and loaded touring provide him with the insight essential to designing and building a custom bicycle perfectly suited for its intended use. Only by riding and analyzing many bicycles over a number of years and many thousands of miles can one develop a strong sense of what great bicycle design is. In addition to his riding and racing experience Tom's many years in the bicycle business have given him the opportunity to ride and scrutinize literally thousands of bicycles, and from that experience he has learned how to design, build and spec truly superlative machines. In addition to proper geometry and material selection,
to be of value a custom frame requires precise sizing for optimal fit
and rider efficiency. Having set up many hundreds of bicycles for all
kinds of riders, Tom knows what perfect bicycle fit is, and can help
you achieve it in the form of an Oswald custom frame. |

Building Philosophy
|
Every Oswald frame and fork is constructed using only human powered tools -- no lathes, no milling machines, no 12-axis CNC laser molecule modulators, not even an electric drill. Sure, that means more sweat and toil for Tom Oswald, but what it means for you is that your bicycle will be created with the love and care that can only come from a person passionate about making bikes the right way. And the right way to build a unique human powered machine is with human power. Like the bicycle itself, Tom Oswald's building process is clean, quiet and efficient. It provides a peaceful work atmosphere, which allows achievement of the utmost level of craftsmanship. |
| With this method, each stroke of
the file and every turn of the hand cranked drill becomes an investment
in the ultimate quality of your finished bicycle. And you can be sure
that when a framebuilder puts that kind of devotion into his work, the
result is something greater than simply the sum of its parts. It becomes
more than just a bunch of tubes and a shiny coat of paint. It is a machine
with a soul, an artful expression of all that is wonderful about the world
of cycling. |
